Argue for or against the use of cell phones in two paragraphs, using a different pattern of organization or rhetorical device in each. Be sure to head each paragraph with a label that identifies which pattern or device you are employing to argue your point. Some paragraphs may contain more than one device, such as the sample provided below, but you still need to compose two separate paragraphs. While you do not have to refer to either of the articles we have read so far in this assignment, you may wish to try your hand at paraphrasing and quoting. Just be sure to properly cite any textual references according to MLA format! (Due 9/20)
(Example & Narration)
Cell phones are the most convenient invention ever and I’m sure many would agree. For example, they make parents less worried because their children can get in contact with them right away. I remember that when I first started high school I didn’t have a cell phone. My parents knew I got out of school at 3 pm, which I did, but this one day I was delayed because I had to buy a new MetroCard. After some time when by and my parents didn’t find me home they began to worry. My dad drove all over looking for me, but he couldn't find me. When I finally got home I called his cell to find out where he was and he was so happy to hear from me. Still, if I had a cell phone then I could have called my parents to let them know where I was, what I was doing, and why I was going to be late coming home.
Many people might agree or disagree with cell phones being useful and helpful to the existence of the human race. You are not wrong with whatever your stand is because everyone is entitled to their opinions. I personally do believe that without cell phones people can’t live. It was possible back in the days but not in the modern days. With the help of cell phones, I am able to keep in touch with my family and friends back home. I do not have to write them a letter which will take the longest before they receive it. With just one dial, I am good to go. I can talk to them whenever I want. It is making life easier.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I am also able to wake up on time because of the alarm clocks on the cell phones. You might be thinking” haven’t you heard about alarm clocks?” well yes I have but I prefer the once on cell phones better than that one. These cell phones also keep me entertained. I get to play games, watch videos, listen to music and in a way it is sort of like a mini computer. I also get to send messages and picture messages without people being all up in my business. I am not the kind of person that checks their emails frequently but with help of my cell phone, I am able to check my emails frequently or perhaps daily. People might tend to abuse the ways that cell phones are supposed to be used, but that does not make it unimportant. It is essential in our daily life and we should be glad that we have such a wonderful technology as that.
Cell phones are very important part of life for most of the people who use the technology. This technology is special and very helpful for us in the present and in future it would be even better. Some people misuse cell phones and mainly use them for just entertainment and music. So it depends on how the person uses his or her phone. I use the cell phone to keep in touch with friends, playing games, music, and other entertainment. I can call or text my friends and family and be in contact all the time. If I get bored and want to pass time I can play games and music on my phone and it would keep me entertained. Cell phones are also for safety and I feel safer with my phone.
ReplyDeleteTeenagers use the technology mostly for their entertainment, text messaging and social networking. While people who are committed to their jobs will most likely use the device to contact their boss, and let them know if they are expected to be late for work or meetings. Generally I feel cell phones are useful and helpful for the modern people, and we should be thankful there is such technology present. There are still some negatives when you look at cell phones overall, for example kids being spoiled, and text messaging etc. But looking at the positive and better side of the technology I support the use of cell phones.
Narration
ReplyDeleteEmergencies do happen, quite sure daily there’s someone out there who faces an unexpected occurrence requiring immediate action. Cellphones today can be considered as great tools ever invented; they provide lots of benefits to its users and one that’s very important is safety, especially during times of desperate need of help. As you never know when you will encounter an emergency situation, carrying a cellphone may save your life. Once, my mom was driving in the parkway and all of a sudden she started to feel dizzy, as if she couldn’t drive, and losing control. Thus, she began to slow down the speed drastically which could have been dangerous, for so many cars were coming from behind very fast. My sister and I were with her, we tried to calm her down so she wouldn’t lose balance and although being very nervous our first action was to grab the cellphone and call for rescue. Thank God, we were able to pull off at a safe spot till rescue personnel helped us out of the parkway, made sure that my mom felt better and was seen by a doctor. If we wouldn’t have a cellphone who knows what might’ve happened, clearly it was our safety tool at the time we most needed it.
Examples and Illustration
One of the cellphone’s greatest advantages besides safety is being able to communicate with families and friends abroad. Many people who come to this country for different reasons leave behind what could matter the most to a human being, loved ones, families and friends. Fortunately, cellphones has helped improve communication in many ways playing a significant role for those who want to keep in contact with their families and friends outside the United States. For instance, the advanced technology in cellphones has eased the barrier of distance allowing individuals to reach each other instantly through calls, text messages, and even voice notes. Also, video calls through cellphones lets you see the person while enjoying a conversation giving you a better sense how they are feeling and how they’re doing by their face expressions etc. Having to wait desperately to get a letter in the mail is long gone, now is smart phones mode on!!

Since they were introduced to us, cell phones have made a huge impact on us and change our lifestyle in ways people never imagine they would. Unfortunately, since cell phones have done so much, many people have such strong views on them. I believe that cell phones are very convenient and they help out with more things than people think. For example, in the article Our Cell Phones, Ourselves by Christine Rosen, she makes a list on how convenient cell phones are. “ Paramedics use camera phones to send ahead to hospital pictures of the incoming injuries; “in Britain, it is now commonplace for wireless technology to allow companies to remotely access meters or gather diagnostic information.” Construction workers on-site can use cell phones to send pictures to contractors off-site.” (pg. 2) It seems as people don’t realize what cell phones could really do, many people think we use it talk and socialize.
(Examples and Illustrations, Compare and Contrast)
It’s understandable why people would be against cell phones, many people tend to abuse it and annoying people while using them. But they haven’t look at the how it helped people in different circumstances. Cell phones could have helped people from getting lost, call emergencies when they’re in danger, and even call for assistants when something like an accident happens. I’m for cell phones, everyone has had some type of help because of them; they could have organized things a little better because of it, found out about an important e-mail before it was too late, or even have a very important conversation with a family member. Many individuals just need to learn how to use it and be more polite with it.

ReplyDeleteTechnology is everywhere, in today world; we cannot go a day without our cellular phone. Personally I cannot. I feel so lost and disconnected from everyone. Cell phones have become more useful now than ever before, people use their phone for almost everything and anything, most of our phones can do almost anything so why not make used of it. I use my phone for a lot of help, when I need to look up facts or research I can quickly Google it, within seconds.
Having the ability to connect with family and friends from across the world with my cell is helpful and amazing to me. For example last year my family and I took a trip to Greece to visit my grandparents, we spent two weeks not a long time at all but during those two weeks it felt like months just for the reason I had no service to text, call or facebook. I didn’t think I was attach to my phone until I didn’t have it, I still had the habit to consentingly check my phone even though I had no reception .Technically is a beautiful thing it is useful and helpful ,for me my cell phone is the one thing I always have on my right hand .
Examples and illustrations:
ReplyDeletePeople argue that cell phones ensure safety but in reality they pose more harm for us. Millions of car accidents occur yearly and a lot of them are due to cell phone use while driving. People know the dangers of doing such things but everyone wants to believe they’re an exception to the rule. It’s not about how many things you can do at once; it’s about being safe especially when your life isn't the only one involved. I remember when I was driving around with my cousin. She had just moved into a new neighborhood and was showing me the area. Between our conversation and the music playing she received a text from her boyfriend. She picked up her phone right away, I glared at her but she assured me that she was just going to read it. She told me to keep a look out just in case so I did. The streets were clear of people when all of a sudden a little boy ran across chasing a ball. I screamed and she hit the brakes so hard that the whole car jerked forward. Luckily no one got hurt but that goes to show that your whole life can change in a blink of an eye. That could have been the difference between life and death not only for us but for the little boy too.
Cause and effect:
Our dependency on cell phones is causing us to become more and more disconnected from society. They may keep us socially connected but its making us interact less with the people around us, it’s making us anti social in a way. Not only that but its making us lazier than ever. Everything that was once considered normal is being replaced with something involving technology such as visiting a friend. No matter how close they live we rather call or text them to see if they’re home instead of going out and figuring it out for ourselves. Apps such as Skype and Oovoo now take the place of seeing someone in person. Everything is becoming less personal and requires us to do less in today’s society. It almost seems as if people rather text someone right next to them instead of actually having a face to face conversation. It’s getting to the point that it will be considered normal too. Have you ever tried talking to someone while they’re on the phone? They are either too into their phones or just ignore you if not that you get an angry response. Society itself has become nonexistent to phone users but it doesn’t have to be that way. Everything in excess is bad for you; you just need to put a stop to cell phone abuse and control it.
Compare and contrast:
ReplyDeleteThere are advantage and disadvantage for people using cell phone. The advantage of cell phone is very convenient for people in any situation. For example, when a house is on fire, people would call 911 immediately. Cell phone also brings the disadvantage for people, for example, when people are crossing the street, in the middle of the street, they would concentrate more on the phone rather looking out for the crossing lights.
Narration and example:
Cell Phone is a useful tool in this society. I remember this summer, I went to trip to New Jersey. I was worried about my younger sister who went to summer school and had to go home by herself. At that time she doesn't have a cell phone, so I asked her to contact me through email every day just to make sure she arrived home safely. Every day I waited for her email. I’m still worry so much too, but now, she has her own cell phone. I would always contact her to know where she at to make sure if she is safe or not.
ReplyDeleteMany these days may argue that cell phones are the best thing that has happened to
our generation, but I think otherwise. Cell phones put us at a disadvantage against the world. I
remember one day I was waiting for the light to change and a women comes next to me texting
and obviously waiting for the light as well. Then as soon as the light changed I started walking
and so did she but the difference was that she walking while she was texting. I was baffled
when I saw her because this could be a very dangerous situation. She is walking but she is not
aware of what’s happening around her. What if a car decides to just run the light because it’s in
a hurry for some reason or someone came come behind her and steal her purse or something.
Not only do cell phones put us at a disadvantage from others but they also change the
way we are and think. Before there were cell phones people we able to function normally and
able to give people their undivided attention with no problem, but now that has changed.
Everyone now days have to check their phones constantly. For example when people are on the
train with no signal underground all they are thinking of is when they are going to get out of the
train so they can get service again. They are just thinking of all the messages and latest news
that they are missing out on. Our ways of thinking weren’t the only things that changed, but
the way we act as well. We become too attached to our phones that we forget how to act
properly. For instance in the article Taking the Offensive Against Cell Phone by Lisa Guernsey
there was a woman in a bagel store and she came and was going to order a bagel while talking
on the phone and she was asked nicely if she could stop. Instead of listening and doing it “The
customer looked annoyed and declared with a huff” (4). This shows that people sometimes
people forget how to act properly when they have their phones.
Examples and Narration:
ReplyDeleteCell phones are very beneficial and people use them more than ever. For example in Christine Rosen’s “Our Cell phones, ourselves”, she states that “in Slovakia, people are using mobile phones to remotely switch on the heat before they return home”. Also, phones are used to diagnose illness without even consulting a doctor. They can even make home remedies to cure their illness within their own home and save them money and time.
Narration:
During the summer, me and my friends decided to go to central park. Now I’ve never traveled to central park by train before so I was unsure on how to get there. But with my Google maps app on my phone, it was so easy a caveman can do it. Within no time we got there with no problems and hassle free. Before we left we wanted to eat something, so we came to the agreement and decided on finding the closest Popeye’s. An hour later we eventually reached it. Shortly after we realized we weren’t in central park anymore and we were on the tip of Harlem. That day we walked 3 miles but it was so worth it. If it wasn’t for Google maps, we would be lost.

Description
There is no question about it. This handy, miniature, artifice has completely changed the way the world lives. These brainy devices provide an incredible array of functions. They emit ghostly signals connecting you to whoever you need. They surf the web with lighting speed and most of the time can be light as a feather. These intricate tools are being spread to the masses like currents with every new model coming in one after the other. Many have taken the good out these devices but some have fallen so in love with their new found drug that it’s become an addiction.
Analogy
Cellphones and cigarettes are alike in many ways. For the most part in today’s society there are many places that have restriction as to whether or not you can be on the phone or smoke. For example in the article “Taking the Offensive Against Cell Phones” by Lisa Guernsey, she compares the cellphone phenomenon to no- smoking regulation. “Now the smoker and the phoners meet on the sidewalk, “she said. Basically both are a disruption of the peace. Another little thing in common between to two is the addiction many people suffer from the two. Some people just can’t break bad habits and with the extreme preoccupation both can carry they give rise to concerns about the long-term consequences.
Compare and Contract:
ReplyDeleteThere is an ongoing debate regarding cell phone. Many older generations feel that cell phone usage in public places is annoying to them. An abundance of people expressed real life embarrassing situations caused by cell phones. For example, in the article "Taking the Offensive Against Cell Phones" by Lisa Guernsey, Jeff Griffin was at church when a woman's cell phone rang uncontrollably while she dug through her purse to turn it off. This is why many people and companies are making new technological devices and improvements, which allow cell phones to vibrate or decrease the volume by oral communication when receiving calls. Now days in the movie theaters, churches, classrooms, concert halls, and even now restaurants are putting a ban on cell phone uses. There always two sides to an argument and I feel that the older generation seems to mind the cell phone use rather than the younger generation.
Narration and Example:
I do not mind when people use cell phones. I think it is a way of contacting people and a way of communicating with each other. Now cell phones are much more than just to make calls. It's part of people's everyday life. You need it everywhere you go and it has become a necessity to the world. I do not think people are going to stop using cell phones. I just think that they are going to make other technology that is going to make cell phones less of a problem for people who are annoyed with them. The older generation might not need all of the apps and gadget that are on the cell phones but the younger generation do because we are brought up with these stuff and if we don't know them or don't have them it makes us different than others. I need my cell phone, i check my emails on there, I text my friends, and listen to music on my on my phone. I think many people can say the same thing about their cell phones.
Examples and Comparison:
ReplyDeleteCellphones are great for communication and delivering messages to people. For instance, most of my friends have cellphones. Therefore, whenever I miss them or think about them, I just call them. It’s that easy to communicate with them. Back in the days when people didn’t have cellphones, they had to go to the persons house to give them the messages. But, today we have cellphones, which has also made delivering messages very easy. All you have to do is call the persons cellphone and leave the messages to them. You don’t have to do any traveling and waste your time to deliver messages. Thanks to the cellphones.
Narrations:
Lately, cellphones has been very important to me with all the apps that it consists of. One of the app that came most handy to me was the google map. One day, my cousin invited me for lunch at his house. I had never been to his house before, and I didn’t knew where it was either. So when I left my house ,I forgot to bring his address number along with me. I was already out of the house, and near the train station. It would be too much work and time consuming if I go back home and get the address and again walk back to the train station. So, I just called my cousin using my phone, and asked him for his address. After he gave me the address, I searched it in one of my cellphone app, Google Map. The app gave me the direction to how to get to my cousins house. The cellphone app was very useful to me. If I didn’t had my cellphone that day, I would have probably canceled the lunch plan. But,because of the cellphone, it saved my day.
(Example)
ReplyDeleteCell phone is one of the most common technical products that people use everyday. Undeniable, they are convenience and we can do so much things with the cell phone. For examples, we can check today’s weather; E-mail or create an alarm clock in our cell phone, they are not only use as a contact machine, they are more like a little computer in our pocket. Also, cell phone can contacts with others very quick no matter how long the distance is. Their small and convenient configurations make them more and more popular throughout the world.
(Comparison)
Everything has a positive and a negative effets, that include cell phone. As we more and more depend on cell phone, many teenager get addicted to it. Those teenagers check their cell phone every minute, play game or listen to the music on the cell phone, looks like they live in a separate world from us and can not live withour cell phone. Compare to cell phone’s positive use, people call security department when there is emergency, they use cell phone only when they really need to use, not use as a entertain tool.
Examples & Illustrations
ReplyDeleteThere are many benefits to having a cell phone that may surpass the negative reactions that some may have towards cell phone users. I feel that an important reason of having a cell phone are for safety reasons. Many people feel that having a cell phone makes them feel safer because of last minute emergencies, they are able to reach their loved ones quicker than not having one. As Christine Rosen pointed out in her article " The safety rationale carries a particular poignancy after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2011....Many people who had never considered owning a cell phone bought one after September 11th. "(pg. 2). Another example of a phone being a positive aspect of some lives would be if a child would have to walk home from school by their selves, they would be able to call their parents to let them know their whereabouts.
From my own personal experiences cell phones have actually saved me through my times of need. When I was younger my mother bought me a cell phone in 5th grade because I would have to walk to after school by myself. By having a phone I felt safer because if something were to happen I had a phone to so I would be able to contact with someone. Now that I am older a cell phone is still one of my safety tools because I sometimes do a check in with my parents, if it is the middle of the day or after school I would call just to let them know I am okay. Another example would be when my knee gave out in school, I was able to use my phone to contact my mother. Although I may depend on my phone for other reasons such as entertainment it also serves as a safety net for me and many others.
Example and Narration
ReplyDeleteMany people would argue that cell phones are very beneficial rather than just an annoyance to the public. I agree because nowadays, having a cell phone is now a necessity. Whether you’re a person with a job or a student, not having a cell phone can get pretty hard. You have to check your email regularly especially from your boss or professor. You can make emergency calls or even a call to let someone know where you are and what time you’ll be heading home. Or just send them a quick text if you’re busy. All the new apps on these new cell phones are just incredible. There is an app called the “Viper Smart Start” that starts your car with just a push of a button. It is very helpful especially for the summer or winter to warm up or cool up your car before you drive. Google maps is the best app ever created and and it made cell phones more useful and helpful than ever.
A few weeks back, my friend and I were coming home from a late night dinner. We were driving home in the pouring rain with thunder and couldn’t see anything. Of course we got lost. Luckily she had me sitting next to her with a smart phone while she had a “dumb phone”. I simply typed in my home address and my phone located where we were and the exact directions on how to get home in just about 15 seconds. She was a new driver and was scared of going on the highway so I checked other routes GoogleMaps suggested, and chose to go on the local road instead. It told me the amount of time it would take me to get home so we can call our parents to let them know we’ll be home soon. If we didn’t have my smart phone that day, we’d have to spend the night in the car.

Cause and Effect:
Cellphones today have a so called "Catch 22" in our society, they are beneficial in many ways but they are also destroying our intellectual being all at once. There are many factors in to why we have have this addiction to our phones, For example "Smartphones" have all the tools necessary to solve our little problems that we may encounter during our day. This was evident when i was purchasing a book for school. I used my smartphone to scan the bar code of the book and i found out it was cheaper at a local bookstore. The side effect to this Cellphone addiction is the fact that i constantly check my phone every two minutes just to see what's going on.
Analogy:
Today were in a so called "Systematic Society" we follow the same routine everyday to the point where we don't even realize that we are doing the same thing. This can go hand and hand with our cellphones. You can compare this theory to the necessities that we inquire everyday. You wake up, brush your teeth, take a Shower, then check your cellphone. Its has become a habit for all of us today in this technology filled society, but sometimes its good to go against the "Norm"

Cellphones have few but nonetheless foreboding consequences. Take for example texting while driving. This has become a regular occurrence of the general populace of the modern world. People texting while driving have been to the detriment of many unfortunate families, who have had the bad luck of family members either being extremely hurt or perishing in accidents caused by this disadvantage. As much as cellphones might positively influence one’s life, it can’t do by taking a life.
Cause and Effect
The modern world has seen the increase in usage of cellphones. While this could be viewed as an advantage, the ability of people to pay attention to their environment has seen a gigantic decrease. People are now creating their own worlds for personal use. A guy on the bus could be talking on his phone to his girlfriend at an obnoxious volume without even caring for the people in his environment, saying all sorts of vulgar things. Before cellphones, people were able to take quiet, enjoyable bus rides, walks etc. but it seems that those days are long gone.
Description
ReplyDeleteEver take time to think about organizing your life in just minutes? Schedule your day-to- day activities? Get easy net access or fast entertainment? Stop guessing, all this and much more can be done on a cell phone. Cell phones are becoming a top notch priority to people around the world, even more so with the upgraded apps. And why wouldn't it? the wireless, portable instrument is convenient in numerous ways. Saves time to send someone a quick text or shoot an email rather than a phone conversation that can drag longer than required. Its riveting how one can become so dependent to a tool made by man. "With technology comes addicition" said Rosen in Our cell phones, Ourselves.
Analogy
Some people would argue that a cell phone is a rather desrupting device. That it is a public infliction or 'pain in the neck' as some would say. I think the nuisance happens to be the loud or annoying person on the phone, and not the phone itself. It's true that a smartphone has countless applications of things that were done manually before, but a smartphone is only as smart as the beholder. But then again these applications could be the reason why people are compelled to get a cell phone. In my opinion, cellphones should be allowed everywhere, as long as people are responsible. Cell phones do pose potential threats, but to the people who lose control on the road while driving. (it still has to do with the person losing self control) As long as people know the right time and place to use them, there shouldn't be a problem.
Well first of all cell phones were not always around. They were invented because they provided a more convinient way of communication for people. As one looks now in our modern world it has evolved into one of the most widely used devices rather than exclusive to the elites of society. Basically if it wasn't helpful or made things easier in everyday life there would be no need for it and the technology wouldn't have spread all over the world, much less continue to develope through the investment of billions of dollars.
ReplyDeleteExamples:
It would be hard to find someone without a cell phone because its benefits way more than its disadvanteges and we have use for it every singlw wacking moment. Without it it would be a lot less easier to get things done. We use cell phones for Talking to people half way around the worl and 2 or more time zones away. We can send writen ntexts in half the time a conventional hand writtwen letter would because of texting. Even noiw with smart phones we can even price check items with our phones, take, edit, and send pictures and images, organize our entire lives down to the second, make purchases, recieve important information on the go,get banking done, and have personal conversations with it. Not to mention at the single press of a button ones smart phone can even aid medical personel in assisting an uncontiouse patient, find a missing child, and its practically impossible to loose since it can track itself. I mean what more does one want to realize that cell phones are a great help. Sure they might have some flaws but they cant compare to their benefits.

Examples and Narrations
Possibly the most Lukewarm piece of technology revealed to the public, a Cellular Phone or “cell phone” as it is more commonly dubbed, has been at the center of large scale debate throughout the entire world. The constant technological evolution the device has taken in the past decade has led to large scale changes in society. It can be argued that not all impacts made by this device has been all to beneficial for every individual, for example most phones now fall into categories and depending on which cell phone you poses whether it be a “Smart Phone” or a less sophisticated “Dumb Phone” you place in a social hierarchy can be predetermined. The type of cell phone you may pose can also reveal an even larger amount of private knowledge such as your finance, the more sophisticated your phone the more it may cost, your safety may also be at risk depending on your phones appearance as it may mesmerize a thief to focus his attention on you. Cell phones are indeed at the top of the 21st century’s major accomplishments, they provide each and every individual with the chance to become part of a broader network partially exclusive but the invitation to be able to communicate on a broader spectrum is celebrate by many.
Analogy
Today’s cell phones are arguably the most used electrical devices among most individuals. Praised for their ability to conjure convenience and safety at a whim the impressive gadgets for the most part do their jobs and lift burdens from their users. As with all piece of technology for every good feature it has there is an opposite negative characteristic it can exhibit. Some cell phone users believe that by just have the gadgets they are required to be showed respect much like a police officer and a gun. The responsibility of such individuals should be questioned in some in cases of vulgarity and disrespect to society. When a policeman or woman takes their oath they are giving their word, putting their integrity on the line promising to be responsibly carriers of firearms, the idea that a cell phone owner should be held to a social contract as in the case of police officers is a step forward for eliminating the many negatives of disrespectful cell phone use.
(Process)
ReplyDeleteAside from the convenience cell phones can often provide, they also play a major role in disconnecting people from the world around them. Children nowadays are given cell phones at very young ages for the sole purpose of contacting their parents or guardians in emergency situations and to ensure their safety. But what happens when a child misuses their phone? Recent technology allows for cell phones to double as a form of entertainment, being able to surf the web, stream video, and download games. Growing up with this technology readily available develops a sense of attachment in children. As they get older, these teenagers and young adults depend on their phones more and more to organize their lives and communicate with others, thinking of their phone as an extension of themselves, which one might argue is an unhealthy way of living. A person can become easily removed from the world this way, losing touch with social skills since all he or she knows is texting or instant messaging. Important parts of human interaction like body language and tone of voice can be lost in translation through such impersonal text conversations, thereby resulting in disconnection from the world outside technology.
(Analogy)
Cell phones are like straight jackets in numerous ways, each constraining, controlling and holding power over a person to the extent that one can find themselves lost without their device. With cell phone use comes a certain constraint that keeps people from interacting with others in a healthy manner much like a straight jacket can. Cell phones have control over the way a person lives his or her life. When important dates and contacts are saved on a persons phone it holds power over him or her, just as a straight jacket does. Once someone takes a straight jacket off, they've become so used to having it dictate their lives that they feel lost without it. Being dependent on a cell phone for a prolonged period of time, they can also become lost and have no direction. It is frightening to think how alike cell phones and straight jackets really are.

My cell phone is "dumb". No, borderline retarded. I own a Metro PCS Samsung 1G phone and I’ve had it for about 8 months now. Everywhere I go, I see many individuals on their Smart phones for instance, iPhone, Android, and HTC. There isn’t much I can do with my phone; all I can do is make phone calls and text every-now-and-then. Some of the main reasons for the invention of the cellphone are for safety reasons, to keep in contact easier, faster, if we’re lost, when we need help in anything, and for entertainment even. Where would we be without the invention of cell phones?
For instance, I was very sick on Friday 09/14/12, and it was a school day for me. I was in Jamaica Center Station; on my way home instead I wound up being in the emergency room later that day. I needed my cell phone to report to my mother about my every move, like, whether I should stay and wait for someone to pick me up from school, going to the hospital, and how I’m feeling. But there’s no signal once you get down the station. A stranger named Tanya, helped me by using her cell phone to tell my mother what was going on me. Even though I was getting help, I never felt so alone because everyone around me was strangers. My mother wouldn’t have known what happened to me, probably till I reached the hospital. That’s why people need cell phones- it’s convenient, it’s essential.
