(#6) Tech Test

Spend the next few days being a bit more aware about your social internet usage, via your computer, your phone, or otherwise. Describe in detail what you are typically doing when you visit one of these sites. How many hours a day do you spend on social sites? Are you a multitasker too? Do you feel that face-to-face interaction is at risk of becoming obsolete, or do you believe that social ties are becoming stronger via new, electronic mediums? (Due 11/8)

The use of social sitesthrough ourcomputers and cellphones is something that we have become attached to lately. When I’m at home, usually I use the laptop to visit social sites like Facebook instead of the cell phone. Typically, I listen to music as I look through the page reading status that other people post, and video chatting with family and friends. Often webecome a multitasker because the many different things we are able to do while engaging in these sites. For example, there are times when I am sitting on the bed with the laptop, my college books around, and pen on hand doing homework and checking myFacebook page serves as in between break. Also, while being on Facebook, opening new tabs is my favorite thing to do I get to shop online, read information on health issues, and Google anything of my interest. Social sites canentertain people but it can also make onelose track of time. Reading all kinds of post, looking at pictures and videos that are uploaded keeps our eyes glued to the computer and last thing you know it has been two hours that you have been there.

Today, face-to-face interaction is becoming obsolete through the use of new electronic mediums because individuals find it easier to reach others this way. People prefer to text to find out if their friend is at home or not instead of actually going to their home. Video conversations are replacing face-to-face interactions especially for those that live far from each other. Social ties are becoming weaker for people don’t have that opportunity to spent time together and although communication is still present it is not the same as face-to-face where you can tell the person’s feelings and even intentions.

  2. The social sites in our generation are very popular. Facebook, Twitter, and other social sights is what we feed on now a day. We have an obsession and a need to use all of these sights. It's not a lot of talking but more on updating on what we are doing in our life in statuses which can be a bit time consuming. I too spend a lot of time on these social sights. I communicate the way in my life with my friends and family. I spend most of the day on my computer, phone, or iPod. I multitask while I am doing homework. I read, on Facebook, and listen to music. I think I do have some type of attachment to my technology and my checking my social sights every minute. Talking to my friends on Facebook makes me happy and posting my statues and uploading pictures is what I like to do in my free life. Its fun a time when there is a funny comment or post everyone can write on it makes things interesting.

I think now a day's face-to-face conversations are not being absolute because we can also video chat. I think if someone is shy, these social sights can help them communicate with others, and people better. They can get there point of view across. I think it is a great way of finding and talking to someone and that build confidence. I think it's a good way to also met new people from all around the world and talk to them, but always have to make sure you are safe in what u do and say to others.

  3. When I use the internet on my phone or computer, I usually go to YouTube, Facebook or Google. I am always signed into Facebook on my phone although I may not check it all the time. When I do check it, I scroll through new pictures and statuses my friends have posted up. I also talk to people via Facebook chat or message. On Google I search up anything and everything I am unsure of. Whether it is just a random question or something I have to research, Google is the first place I go to for that. On YouTube I watch all sorts of videos and listen to music. I do not spend a lot of consecutive hours on these websites but I do spend a couple of accumulated hours on them daily. I tend to always text or get on Facebook while doing my homework which I know is not the best thing to do. I can never just concentrate on one thing, and when I do try I end up thinking about doing something else. I do feel that face-to-face interaction is at risk of becoming extinct because everything is becoming less personal due to the advance of technology.

  4. As a devoted multi-tasker, as soon as I power on my laptop and establish a strong, proper connection, I divvy my attention to the numerous tabs that I open up on my web browser. From talking with friends to looking at pictures and conveying information to others, that is typically what my time consists of while on the internet, mainly when I’m on Facebook but not limited to that social network alone. On a normal day, I usually spend approximately 6-7 inconstant hours online, taking care of my different social network profiles.
Yes, I do think that face to face interaction is at risk of becoming obsolete. Lately, everyone has become addicted to their mobile devices of which not only serve as means of communication but also entertainment. This definitely increases the risk of face to face interaction becoming obsolete, but with that said; I truly believe that social ties are becoming stronger due to the increase of the risk of face to face interaction becoming obsolete.

  5. Computers ,cell phones , and other devices are a must of our everyday live . Cellphones and the Internet has because a need for this generation .Almost all ages have some type of device ,news paper or printing details are barely used . I am attach to my cellphone more likely than my computer because it is a much easier access . When I go on my computer usually the fist few suits i go on are Facebook ,twitter or some type of social network . I look though status ,pictures, and chat with my Facebook friends .i get all my daily news and updates from Facebook . For the pass week hurricane sandy hit New york so all my updates on the incident came from Facebook . Sometime I check emails it all depends .
Face to face interaction has become limited after everyone's used the Internet to start relationship and or friendships -most people meet their lover over Facebook , people are becoming less personal with others , everything happen over the Internet . When friends have confrontation most people feel " bad " or easy to handle it over the Internet . Most of us preferred to text or call our friends rather than go over to see them . When we meet someone for the first time most of us say " you should Facebook me " rather then let's meet up for Lunch. face to face has become less important to us it's more what we can not see . Sometime texting how I feel is better than seeing someone face to face but you can't tell emotions thought screens .

  6. Internet has become indispensability for most people. I feel very inconvenient doing things without internet. Since internet has provided me so many entertainments. Usually, I use internet to check my email, Face book, chat with my friend, download music, and watch television, also online shopping. Sometimes, I tried spending only a certain amount of time on the computer for myself, but it is always a failure. I am not a multitasker, For example, when I needed to use the internet to do my research paper, after a few hours passed, I did not finish even half of my homework but had a great happy conversation with my friends. Therefore, I believe it is hard for us to control our time while we are using the internet to do something.

I believe that face-to-face interaction is at risk of becoming obsolete. For me, I don’t feel like to go out to meet my friends or go out shopping anymore. I am too lazy to go shopping because I feel tired to walk from one store to another store to find clothing or jeans I like. Right now, internet has made our life easier, I can always shop online. Also, internet help us keep in touch with our friends no matter how far we are from each other.

  7. Internet is the way we communicate, research, up date ourselves with world events and get entertainment as well. In my personal case I use the Internet mostly for research and entertainment. I utilize my phone’s Internet for entertainment purpose, to watch videos or go to social networks. I usually visit Youtube.com, Facebook or Netflix. In the other hand my computer’s Internet is more for work purposes. To find information for a paper, find the definition of a word or check my email to see what work I have to do. The most common sites used in my computers are Google, Dictionary.com and Gmail. I spend more time in the Internet for entertainment purposes than I do for research or anything else. I usually spend the whole night on the Internet if it has to do with entertainment. I have also noticed that I tend to intertwine the entertainment and thee research together. I listen to music and watch videos while I try to research information. This helps me not get bored or fall asleep on the work that I have to do.

We are able to do so many things at once on the interne that I feel that face-to-face interactions are fading away. Sometimes when my cousin comes by my house to visit me and just wants to talk and catch up, I basically give her the cold shoulder because I am to entertained with watching videos. I try to listen to her and multitask but that does not work out. Because one ear and one eye is trying to listen and pay attention to my cousin and the other ear and eye is trying to pay attention to the video. It takes awhile for me to decide to pause and listen to my cousin and give her my undivided attention. But with all of this the internet also helps some people’s relationship get stronger and not disappear. For example those soldiers who have to go over seas and can not get to see their family or girlfriends for many years, the internet helps them keep in contact. It helps them so that their young kids won’t forget their fathers face over the years that he is gone. The internet in their case is their only face-to-face interaction.

  8. Normally when I use the internet via phone and computer, I go to my email to check if I have any messages. Afterwards, I go to maybe Facebook when am bored and I have nothing to do. I used to go to Twitter, Instagram and many other social networks but I deleted my accounts completely because I think is a waste of my time. I used to spend more than four hours on Facebook but now is less than 30 minutes. I only go there to check if I have any notifications, messages or any other things. I research my information on the internet via Google. I also watch episodes of the shows that I missed. I do have Oovoo to keep in touch with my families back home. I multitask sometimes depending on the situation or how much I am in a rush. I do think faces to face are becoming obsolete now because people rather text and use social networking sites than talk to people.

Being home these last few days has drawn me to use the internet twice as much as I normally would. I visit different sites like facebook, youtube, worldstar hiphop, media takeout and Instagram on a regular. Typically I look to these websites in search of entertainment, whether it be a friend to talk to, new uploaded pictures, celebrity drama, or a argument for me to sit back and laugh at. I spend roughly two hours on these websites daily, besides Instagram which I check periodically throughout the entire day. Multitasking while on the internet may as well be one of my specialties. While being on the internet I talk to the people around me, talk on the phone, send out text messages and I even sometimes cook. I feel as if face-to-face interactions is definitely at risk of becoming obsolete. With so many ways to get in contact with people, pretty soon they'll be no need to meet face-to-face. You can call, text, video-chat, send pictures and voice notes. More than enough options to get in contact with others without seeing each other.

  10. Internet usage has grown increasingly ever since the social network like MySpace, Facebook, Instagram and many others has been introduced. Even I spend most of my time on the Internet using Facebook, and Instagram. I usually spend about one to three hours a day on these sites. When I am on these sites, I look through my news feed where I get to read peoples status, and see their pictures. I enjoy doing such things because often times they are funny and interesting, which entertains me. When I am on these sites, I don’t only focus on the site itself but also on other sites like YouTube where I listen to music, therefore I am a multitasker when I am using social network sites.
I believe face to face interaction are becoming stronger via new, electronic mediums because it allows us to connect with many people rather than only with the ones that lives close to us. For instance, with a webcam and video chat, we can have face-to-face interaction with family members or friends anywhere around the world. If webcam and video chat weren’t invented, we would only be able to do face-to –face interactions with people that lives close to us because we would be able to meet with them. Due to the video chat, we are able to do face-to-face interaction with anyone, anywhere without having to meet with them. Therefore, new, electronic mediums are helping to create more face-to-face interactions.

  12. In the last few days, I spent most of my time using the internet both from my phone and computer. Facebook is what i use most of the time and in addition I visit sites like YouTube and Google. I used the internet more than i usually do on a regular basis. When i am on Facebook i normally read through my news feed and see what my friends are doing. I look through new uploaded pictures of my friends, and while i do that i also chat and listen to music. There are also sport pages which i follow, where i get updated on whats going on and get the latest news updates. When i get bored of Facebook, i watch movies or games on my phone. I believe that face-to-face interactions is at risk of becoming obsolete. People usually text and chat with their friends and best friend, instead of going to each other's house and having a conversation. Face-to-interaction is indeed at a high risk of becoming obsolete.

  13. The way i utilize my time through the internet is on my phone or laptop. A couple of websites that i love using are Facebook, Google, WorldStarHipHop, Youtube, NBA.com, and CNN. What I'm usually doing on these websites is just looking for the latest info. Most or i should say all of the time I am on these websites for school work, entertainment, communicating with friends or informing myself on the latest news around the world. On a average I'd say I probably spend about six hours using the internet. i find myself multitasking a lot because i always watching TV and on my laptop at the same time for the most part. Face to face interaction are at risk but won't become obsolete. The way technology is set up in today's day and age can sometimes keep you away from social interaction temporally. For instance, you have phones that allow you to talk and text rather than meeting up with someone face to face and speaking because it is faster. Another example is face time or video calls that people use in order to get in contact with friends and family through long distances. All of these are factors play the role of the double edged sword which is good and bad. Social Interaction is inevitable because as a person you are going to come across a situation that allows you to communicate with someone face to face, it is bound to happen.

  14. During these past few days, my computer and phone usage has been quite the same as before. Although there hasn’t been much school, I managed to not spend too much time on the computer because being on the computer for more than a couple of hours than I’m used to, bothers me. When I do use the computer, I do what almost every young adult would on the computer, which is go on websites like Facebook, YouTube and on occasions, random websites like Buzzfeed or Yahoo. When I go on Facebook, I mostly talk to a few friends that I don’t get to see often and see what’s going on, on my newsfeed. On YouTube; I listen to music or watch random videos to entertain myself. On Buzzfeed and Yahoo, I read articles to try to keep myself aware of what’s going on in the world and also to entertain myself. When I use the computer, the most I use it in a day is probably 3 to 4 hours. I do multitask because it has almost become a habit when I use the computer, I can’t stay on one website. I need to be on at least 2 to keep myself entertained. Face-to-face interactions are becoming at risk of being dated. Although social media is made to keep your social life alive, it’s ironically doing the opposite. People are becoming lazier than usual to go and talk to someone in person, it’s actually harder for people to socialize in person, because they are becoming used to talking through a computer.

  15. I use the internet every day via my desk-top computer, laptop, or my iPod. When I'm at home, the internet is used most likely by the computer and outdoors it's the iPod. I usually visit sites like Tumblr, Youtube, WorldStarHipHop, and Yahoo. On Tumblr I share anything. Post and reblog text, photos, quotes, links, music, videos. Tumblr is like a combination of Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. I am posting my own pictures/videos, texts of how I feel or what I'm doing at the moment and I reblog what the people I follow posts. I'm on Tumblr until I shut off the computer but on my iPod I have the Tumblr app, therefore, I'm on it every day. When I'm on Youtube, I look up music, how-to's, events, shows. I visit Youtube most likely to download music which I spend about 8 hours doing. Worldstarhiphop (WSHH) is an American hip-hop site, shock site and content aggregating video blog. I click on a page number and choose which video or caption catches my attention so I can watch. Some of the videos on this site you can't find on Youtube. The difference between those two sites is that Youtube you have to come up with something to watch but WSHH give you pages of any kind of video, you don't necessarily click on the search bar for what you want. I don't go to WSHH much, I visit it monthly. Last, When I visit the search engine Yahoo, I use it to read articles from the slideshow and to check my e-mail. I'm on Yahoo daily because there are always new articles posted up for me to read. Per day, I'm on social sites for about 2O hours.

I multitask all the time. I feel that social ties are becoming stronger via new, electronic mediums because you have so many options to communicate whether it's texting, calling, or face-to-face or sometimes you have the choice to do all at once. For instance, ooVoo and Skype is a video chat and instant messaging app for the desktop, mobile, tablets, Facebook, and web. You can talk to 3 or more people versus landline phones and some cell phones only a 3 way phone call.

  16. I normally have access to the internet via laptop, cellphone and now my recently bought Google tablet. On my phone, I usually stay signed Into my email, Instagram and Facebook to receive instant notifications and updates. I carry my cellphone around with me which is the main reason I spend more time on these social sites. More than anything, I notice myself text messaging or texting pictures. When I am on sites like Facebook and instagram, I check the birthday calender, scroll Down my news feed, check my notifications and messages. I see that some people update there status' more than others. My favorite is looking at new photos of my family and friends and what they have been doing. Many of them have detailed captions about the new places they visited and so on. Looking at these pictures make me feel like I've traveled without actually being there. Sometimes the time just passes by and I have not even noticed how long I have been on. I do have a tendency of getting bored easily, so I don't stay on any of these for a long period of time but rather checking it from time and again(more often this week due to college being closed). I am a multitasker when it comes to working on school work and working around the house, even if that means working at a slower pace. I believe that social ties are becoming stronger via electronic mediums. That is because the more we keep in contact with our close ones, the better chances of us finding time for one another. For me, personally I can go out and plan things to do by texting someone on my free time. Without these daily texts and updates I wouldn't have felt as close to these same people.

  17. Our generation has become extremely devoted to the use of social sites and communicating devises. I use social sites and cellphones for communication or entertainment. The social sites in our generation that are popular are YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I spend about two hours  inconsistentley a day on these social sites on my own time because it's a fun and interesting way to communicate with others. With status and photo updates you can see how a person really is and maybe find similarities that give you opportunities to communicate more especially if you are shy. I think its a great way to socialize and meet new people. Since I'm not a multitasker, these social sites can be very distracting. I can't concentrate on my work when I have any tabs open rather than the ones I need for my school work. I cant even concentrate with music playing because I start humming or singing along. The only way I can get school work done is by logging off  of all the social sites so I'm not tempted to check for any updates. Text messaging is also a distraction which is why I have to hide it somewhere so I cant hear it buzzing.
I feel like face-to-face interaction is definitely at risk because people are so comfortable speaking to each other electronically, they dont know what to say when they actually meet. When im too lazy to go out and spend time with friends, I like to video chat instead. Its like having a face to face conversation but in a fun way. And the best part is, we can keep in touch with our family and friends no matter how far away we are.  It's definitely easier and quicker.

  19. Typically as we have been discussing addiction to medians of media I have been extra contiouse of my internet usage. However, no matter how much I avoid using it, the need always arises. Im always conected to the world wide web, unless of course its in my pocket, in commute or undeground in the subway. Due to my exessive internet and the cost it imposses my mother even took it of my cell phone plan. My friends even always tell me Im online and ask if I dont sleep thought I do sleep and take ocassional breaks from this seemingly leasure activity. I laugh about it because the truth is I dont abuse the previledge of having access to the internet. I just always have a need for it therefor I always stay connected. My laptop is always and logged into all my accounts, and I never let my cell phone die down.

Its all a matter of how many electronically based priorities one has and how often they attend to them. I am always on alert. You can count on me to reply any email, instant message and missed internet call, almost immediately after it has been sent to me. Not to mension I have friends all over this big blue world due to my educational abckgrouns and very much, like every one else, like to keep in contanc via all the wonderful smart phone apps and social networks at my disposal. Let us not forget the main reason for my usual internet surfing; homework. Yes. In other moments just like this very one as Im making my entery in this blog I use the internet for homework and other educationally related issues such as research, emailing my teachers, chatting with fellow students to better understand my courses and etc. Basically the internet can be used and abused its just up to us to find the true balance so we dont abuse it.

  20. Over the past few days I noticed that repetition takes a key role in my Internet usage. The medium's I mostly use to access the Internet is my laptop and most times it is stationary. The sites I choose to visit her almost always fabricated after one another whether it be MSN, Blackboard or Google. Of note is that my key use of the Internet is research the constant need for information. At most times I try not to let the Internet dictate my free time, possibly my one another score for sports game or my one to the sending e-mail however I believe it's a good idea to occasionally abstain from the use of electrical equipment.Moderation also takes a keeper in my Internet usage whereas I find that gluing your eyes to screen all day is not really too healthy for you.

In my eyes I think I am a multitasker, sometimes I might try to get as much as I can done it the same time so won't be a hindrance in the future. I believe that our social media ties are in fact making individuals relationships stronger, the belated connect faster and more efficiently that is something to be prized.Of course moderation in the sense of responsibility needs to be in place however in our ever expanding ever complex world technology is a must. The fact still stands however that anything no matter how useful it may be can corrupt hence the reason immaturity in the use of these devices should be frowned upon.

  21. Over the past few days, I've noticed a significant increase in the amount of time I spend daily on the internet due to the fact that going out wasn't much of an option. To be specific, I spend the majority of my time online on Facebook, YouTube, and Tumblr. I typically spend about 3-4 hours on these sites a day when there is free time available and, admittedly, when there are other more important things to be done. Aside from Facebook which I use mainly to keep in contact with friends who have gone away to college, I think my time on the internet would be better described as "wasted" rather than "spent." I tend to gravitate more toward comedic YouTube videos and memes on Tumblr as opposed to anything of real substance. Because of this, I would definitely say I am not a multitasker when it comes to the internet--"multitasker" in the sense that there's work being done while being entertained.

I am on the fence as to whether social sites are leading to the obsoletion of face-to-face interaction because I personally have strengthened many connections with friends through electronic mediums. Skype has helped me stay in touch with friends who are dorming at schools outside the city and enables me to maintain more personal relationships. However, I also think it's important to interact with people face-to-face when the option is present and electronic mediums can make people quite lazy in that regard.

  22. I was always aware of the huge amount of internate i use. Recently i just got a laptop for college so the amount of how much internet i use tripled. I would rather go on my laptop and search the internet then watch t.v. Theres so much more options. Usually when i visit the website i always have another tab open. like a gun getting ready to fire. I actually programmed my laptop to have another tab open automatically. The amount of hours i spend on the internet range from 2-5 hours. Either iam watching movies, doing homework or simple on facebook talking to freinds.

I defently consider myself a multi-tasker. Like i said before i have multiple tabs open so i can get more stuff done. It is like an instinct to multi task. today, everyone multitask because there just not enough time in the day to get everythhing done, also people rather get things done quicker then being efficient. Face to face is losing its special connection in this society. with all of the techincal advances..why would you. If something is easier then thats the way. simply like talking through facebook then walking up to the person and saying hello. people act like strangers when they become face to face. all of because this wondeful device called the internet.

  23. Internet provides a lot of information and it has huge influence on my life. The first thing I do when I open my computer is login to my Facebook account, check out what is going on with my friends; what are they doing recently. Normally, I spend 2 hours on chatting per day, if there are something that interesting me, I will spend more time on the website. Therefore, I am not a multitasker; I cannot concentrate on two different things at the same time.

I feel that individual’s relationship is becoming more close to each other. The technology products such as cell phone, television, and computer are benefiting our lives. Because of those techniques, we are able to contact our friends faster and get the information more quickly. I believe that if people do not keep in touch often, their relationship will not be as close as it used to be. Therefore, I am appreciating the social ties that those techniques bring to us.
